We had a goood week that was more settled than last week.
Pre-K is on book 15 of a 17 book series of pre-decodable books. He is loving reading and I have started copy work. I am starting to think about what to do for Kindergarten... I guess I am leaning towards using Alpha Omega's Lifepac although it is not "wowing" me at this time.
2nd grade will hopefully test out of unit 5 for all subjects except math. (we are behind again on math; for some reason, the math units have 5 sections while the others have 3, it catches us every time) He has decided that he wants to try Switched on Schoolhouse (SOS) next year. We will have to take a pretty quick typing course this summer.
6th grade is clipping along. She has lots of writing and research projects for several of her subjects that need to be caught up on in the next couple of weeks. 6th grade does not want to use SOS next year, but has not thought of an alternative. We are shopping and praying about it.
Some weekend schooling to catch up in 2nd grade.
M*****'s Home School ~~ Home of the Rottweilers. We started this blog with the purpose of sharing information with our friends and family, but most of all to give our students more experience in writing, publishing and improving their communication skills. But changes and life marched on and now this blog serves as a record of our school progress and some of that life that marches.

Happy Birthday!
Today is James' birthday! He is 9 years old. So far he has received $10, an army guy and chocolate cake. He is a very easy to please child, works hard in school and on chores and loves to meet new people.
Happy Birthday, Son.

Whew... What a Whirlwind!
Friday was "Friday Funday" as we made our valentine boxes for the party, signed valentine cards and sent out packages to family friends.
Saturday morning was the 2nd pancake breakfast at our local church and once again, my boy James did his duty to make the cooks feel good.
On Saturday afternoon, the pastor and his wife had a valentine party for the children and it was a very cute event where we were introduced to a new toy called Connectagons® Heart-to-Hearts. They were really neat. The children took pictures and then made little bears and hearts picture frames. They ate, had a dance freeze game and then heard a little devotion.
Today we had our bowling party with our homeschool group.
All in all a fun and busy 4 days. Sugar highs and nap time.

Looking for Gold
I love the Olympics! Summer and Winter. I went to the the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and had the time of my life. I started planning soon after to go the the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, but I became a mama twice in the 2 years that followed and travel plans overseas were not completed. But I love the games and watch as much as I can with my children.
I have been trying to put together a study unit that we can do together in school and wondered if anyone has any good ideas or links that you would like to share. Leaning on y'alls creative juices....

"Snuffalufaguses"
All my little lovelies have stuffy noses and it sounds like a herd of snuffalufaguses here. LOL! Do snuffalufaguses travel in herds? So tomorrow all learning with take place while laying down.

Matching Cases
We are working on matching upper and lower case letters so the pack of alphabet cards just "jumped" out of their pack and needed to be matched. Pre-K did a great job.
Every week Pre-K gets a new little reader that adds onto the high-frequency words that he knows. He now knows this whole list:
When I give him his new book, I usually read it to him first. I did not read this to him and he read it right off the bat!
Okay, so I tried to upload a video again using blogger, but it just will not work for me, so I used my Youtube account....
Ok...I know it's a little "MJish", but ya know...gotta protect my youngins!
(pics are upside down, I did rotate the final one)

Aaarrrrggghh
My cousin called me last Thursday and said she found a dog at the shelter that was really cute. She and her husband currently live in an apartment with their baby and cannot have a dog, but are planning to move to a house in the next few months. She was convinced that the dog would get adopted before they moved and she couldn't bare to leave the dog so she called me to ask if we were interested in the dog. Our beloved Rottweiler died last June, so we thought that maybe it was time to adopt another pet.
Being the homeschooler that I am, we researched the new breed, Googled images and called our vet (that we have known since 1989) to get her take on this breed and our family. All was a go, my cousin picked up the dog, e-mailed pictures, said she was so happy that the dog was going to a good home and told me that my aunt would bring the dog on Monday, February 1st.
We brought up our dog cage, scheduled a vet appointment and started the duty of voting on names. Sunday morning, just as I was walking out the door for church, my cousin called and said they had fallen in love with the dog and decided to keep it. My kids were crushed. How sad we all were. So now we are on the search for a dog for ourselves. We are looking for miniature Schnauzer that is less than 1 year old, but does not have to be a new puppy. I would prefer a male.
The dog that almost was.
