There has been a lot of talk about college lately as my 10th grader is starting to do some college planning. Last night before bed, first grade and I were talking about life and stuff when he mentioned that when he goes away to college that he would miss me. I told him that he would always be able to come home for visits anytime he needed to and he said, "When I come visit you, I will bring you a fish sandwich."
The door to my heart... a fish sandwich! LOL!
M*****'s Home School ~~ Home of the Rottweilers. We started this blog with the purpose of sharing information with our friends and family, but most of all to give our students more experience in writing, publishing and improving their communication skills. But changes and life marched on and now this blog serves as a record of our school progress and some of that life that marches.

Technology Strikes Again
In first grade science, we have just begun a unit on energy. In part 1 it introduces the sun as a source of energy. It uses the example of light turning to heat energy and suggested letting the children see, safely, how a light bulb gives off light that turns to heat that can be used as energy. So I turn on the lamp and describe to him how the light bulb will get hot and was going to let him put his hand near it, not touch, to feel the heat. He puts his hand near it and looks perplexed. As it turns out, I have those energy efficient, florescent bulbs in all of my lamps and they don't get hot. Ha Ha Ha. Oh the good ol' days when light bulbs gave off heat.

The Boy Can Tell Time
First grade continues to do well in math and seems to pick up new skills fast in this area... if only we could transfer some of that skill to Language Arts. LOL!

Paper Dolls
In first grade, we are doing a unit on community helpers. I was looking for art projects and came across 1 where he would have had to draw uniforms on blank figures, but I thought that would be a little too much. So I "googled" police paper doll and found this: MakingFriends.com . It was a neat little site that I thought I would share.
I hope to be able to post pics of the finished project later.

My Blue Eyed Prince*
Today is my 1st graders birthday. He is 8 years old, funny, smart and so very helpful. When we walk in the house, he can hardly get his own coat off for trying to help me get out of mine. He tries to carry groceries in 3 and 4 bags at a time... we have to stop him. He helps with sorting laundry by laying each item out, flat on the floor, stacking all pants, shirts and socks together very meticulously. He loves cars, trucks, but especially NASCAR! And he loves to dance.
Happy Birthday, Kid!
*When James was about 5 1/2 yrs old we were cuddling and I ask him if he was my baby and he said, "I your blue-eyed prince!" The endearing term stuck.

The Story Writer
First grade is learning to write stories that have a title, a beginning, a middle and an end. Here is a cute one that started off talking about a baseball game, but then had them running down the court and the picture ended up being a basketball picture. Very funny kid.

Check out the final score! LOL!
