Happy Birthday

Today is preschool's 5th birthday. Jackson is the sweetest little guy who is such a lap-baby. He is huggable and melts right into you when cuddling. He is currently in preschool here at MHS and is looking forward to using his Pre-Kindergarten books that have arrived in the mail for next year. He has told us that he plans to eat the entire box of ice cream this afternoon...

Happy birthday, Kid!

Community Helpers

Today we worked at a local food bank that is housed at the church that we attend. The children really love unpacking boxes from the Food Mover's truck and then stocking the shelves in the food bank. Jeffrey has learned to work the entire program and can check people in, pack orders and often helps families with carrying their food to their car. The other 3 love packing orders and stocking shelves. The shelves are marked with a small ticket that list family size and how much of a particular item that the family can have. The lady who runs the program has it so organized that even my pre-schooler and first grader can pack orders if they are told how many people are in the family. It gives the children so much joy to work at the food bank. They grin so hard that it just makes everyone that comes in smile right along with them.

Story Starters

Question: If you were to give your mother a day with no housework, what things would you do to help out?

Answer by Jordan: If there was no work for one day I would help with the baby and help with my brothers with their home work and school work. If there were school that day I would go to school and get the work I had to get done that day. I would probably get my homework done and then play for the rest of the day. It would be fun and you should always do some work even if you don’t want to do it.

Question: Garber's kites were not only used for target practice; they were also used to carry important papers from ship to aircraft. In what other ways might a kite be used as a tool rather than a toy?

Answer by Jeffrey: Garber kites can also be a warning sign to airplanes. They can let pilots know they are in a restricted area. It can let people know that they are near a certain area. It could be used as an explosive device. You could probably use a kite for the armed forces. You could probably attach a camera to it. It could take pictures from the kite. They could camouflage it to blend in with its surroundings. So the Garber Kite could be used for the army. I think you could put some together to make a bigger kite to send letters to and from the planes in the sky. You could have kite shows. You could do all kinds of things with kites. Kites are the coolest things ever made.

IMO by Jordan

I think girls should wear makeup. The reason is so they know they are pretty. I also think girls should not put so much of it on because it doesn't look that cool with goo gobs of it on your face. Girls only need makeup when they are going somewhere or somebody is coming over. It is fun putting makeup on, that is one reason why I like being a girl. Some models on TV have so much makeup on they don't look attractive. You should always put just a little bit on. Check out Jeffrey's opinion at 10th Grade Big Dawgs

In My Opinion....

5th and 10th grade are doing a 10 part series of paragraphs that express their opinions and thoughts on numerous subjects. While all of 5th grades paragraphs will be published here, some of 10th grades will be published on his blog, 10th Grade Big Dawgs. If you can, go over and give him a little support on his site.

In My Opinion by Jordan

I help to take care of a baby. His name is Littlest Rottie*. He is three months old. He is so sweet and loves to watch TV. He loves to eat and loves to get tickled. He eats eight ounces in the morning because he sleeps twelve hours at night. He is Caucasian with blue eyes. He loves to stand up and is trying to roll over. He wears size two diapers. He is a foster kid. I hope he finds a good family that loves him and takes care of him. I hope he always remembers us.

*His blog name :)

In my Opinion by Jeffrey

When I grow up I am going to open my own detail shop. When I turn eighteen I am going to college. I am going to take a business course. I am also going to study about automobiles. I want to design new hybrid cars for the future. I want to trick out old school cars for a living. You can see some of my designs at 10th Grade Big Dawgs.

Palm Sunday

We have 1 more week of school before spring break and it will be a short week. We had initially planned an Amtrak trip to Chicago, but may postpone that until warmer weather. I heard today that we are expecting more snow in our region. UUGGGHHHH! I have had enough winter.

We have a 10 part series planned for our blog. 5th and 10th grade have written 10 paragraphs discussing favorite things, beliefs and thoughts on various subjects. Some interesting thoughts to come.

On we go....

Happy Birthday Princess

Today is my daughter's birthday. She is 11 years old. I cannot believe that the little baby that they handed to me at the agency is the young lady that I look at today. She is very smart, funny, a voracious reader and very nurturing to the little people that come into our home through foster care. She started off calling herself, "Mommy #2" when the new baby came in January, but has since taken over and now calls me "the other mommy". LOL!

For her birthday, she slept in, has taken the day off from school, ate a cookie and grapes for breakfast and is currently playing a computer game. Such royalty!

Happy Birthday, Kid!
