The Homework Debate....I Mean Conversation.

It's not really a debate....just something we talk about on occasion. I do give homework. Mostly to encourage independent study, but also to teach the habit of management skills that will be needed when they attend college.

10th grade's thoughts on homework... so expressive. Ha Ha Ha. and the Unexpected gift.

Your son has a really nice blog. I left him a couple of comments. Just wanted to let you know so he doesn't think some weird grown-up is internet stalking him. ;-)

Sure looks like you're doing a great job with him!

Well, I jumped over to your 10th graders blog and wrote a comment. Hope he/she dosen't go on strike or something because I said if he/she dosen't like it, to write a letter to the school board! Anyway, thought it might be a neat government lesson or whatever!

Ok, my thoughts on homework is that we, as homeschoolers, don't really have homework since all our work is done at home. But I do highly disagree with homework given out at public/private schools. A child who is in school 6 hours a day ought to be finished with formal lessons when school is out. They need time to play, practice a sport, or just spend time with their family. I think the school districts have discouraged family time by giving entirely too much homework and especially at younger and younger ages. Homework never made anyone smarter; just smothered the love of learning and extinguished the desire to pursue something of the child's own passion.

Just my thoughts.

Many good points, Renee. I am sure Jeffrey will appreciate your support in his anti-homework beliefs.
